| Pen and Ink Art created by Joe Benjamin E-Mail - dotmanjoe@yahoo.com Joe is originally from Quincy, Illinois, but for fifteen years he and his wife Jan lived in the Branson, Missouri area where he demonstrated and sold his Pen & Ink art at Silver Dollar City. Now they are back in Illinois, where they have a home in Bowen, Illinois They have three children and seven grand children who still reside in the Quincy area. Joe was injured in a swimming accident when he was 15 years old (1957). He was paralyzed from the neck down but after a year in the hospital and support from family & friends, he regained some use of his arms and legs and now gets around with the use of a wheelchair. He studied art and holds a degree from Famous Artists School out of Westport, Conn. (correspondence course) created by Norman Rockwell. Started working with Pen & Ink over 25 years ago, and is mostly self taught in this medium which he holds numerous awards for. He has received a total of 17 awards at Silver Dollar City in the years 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005,2006 and 2007 for Best new product and Best New heirloom. In 2003 he received Silver Dollar City’s Living Treasure Award. And in 2006 was voted into Silver Dollar City’s Craftsman Hall of Fame. |
